Industry Experts Collaborate on OTA and MIMO Testing Topics

New mandates for Over-the-Air (OTA) testing of wireless devices are coming out of CTIA this year: the latest release of the SISO OTA plan was mandated on February 1, and the initial release of the MIMO OTA test plan will be mandated later this year. With the increasing complexity in antenna configurations and amount of antennas required for 5G, OTA is becoming a more critical test methodology to accurately evaluate device performance in realistic scenarios.

In support of operators and device manufacturers implementing OTA test plans, industry experts from CTIA, ETS-Lindgren, CAICT and Spirent are providing a first-of-its-kind OTA seminar in Shenzhen, China, on May 20th. The collaborative agenda includes presentations from each of these entities including a review of the OTA test methodology, CTIA OTA standards and certification process, and discussions on critical test areas such as MIMO OTA and Massive MIMO. The detailed sessions will cover:

  • Overview of CTIA OTA Testing and Certification
  • OTA Test Methods and Metrics: An Overview plus GNSS OTA and MIMO OTA Implications
  • New Directions and Requirements of OTA Testing
  • Challenge of Mobile Communication Testing Technology in 5G: Massive MIMO and New Transmission
  • A Close Look at the Spatial Channel Model and its Validation Method for MIMO OTA
  • The Big 4 NA Carriers' MIMO OTA Status and MIMO OTA Beyond Standards
